Hobo Water Heater is a Simple and Incredibly Effective Camping Hack

Hot water is one of those creature comforts that we don't appreciate until it is gone. Having hot water for meals or making a morning coffee goes a long way towards keeping high morale, which is vital in any survival scenario. But heating water is easier said than done when you have limited tools on hand and the camp stove is at home. However, YouTuber WayPoint Survival comes to us with an incredibly simple solution, a "hobo heater."

The hobo heater is incredibly simple, and it is ingenious how this thing works. He explains how you can quickly craft one of these heaters using a metal can, a screwdriver, a pair of pliers, and a funnel. These items are usually easy to find just about anywhere you go. It's a good bit of knowledge to keep in the back of your mind for a "SHTF" type of scenario.

Hobo Water Heater - Really Works!

This is so simple it's brilliant. This guy could be a post-apocalyptic MacGyver. The simple concept of how hot and cold water interact with one another are what make this type of heater work so effectively. We love that you can leave it in the fire and have a steady supply for hot water indefinitely. Just keep supplying fuel for the flames and water. This would be great for a large hunting camp that uses a ton of water for coffee. No more worries about an empty pot.

Obviously, using a food-grade container is the best scenario for building this kind of heater. We'd stay away from containers that held liquids like paint thinner or other hazardous substances unless it is an extreme emergency, and that's all there is to work with. Curious, I did a little searching online and found unused cans like that go for relatively cheap. This is a great solution for a remote backwoods cabin or campsite where other methods of heating water may be unavailable. This is a good one to keep in mind, you know, just in case the zombies ever come.
